TCS moved to 16th rank

NEW DELHI, MAY 7:
Three out of top five Indian IT firms have moved up the global ranking in terms of revenues in 2011.

According to Gartner, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) moved to rank 16 in 2011 compared to 21 in 2010, Cognizant has moved to the 27th spot compared to 30 in 2010 and HCL Technologies also moved up to rank 46 during 2011 against its 48 in 2010. Infosys and Wipro have held their last year's ranking of 26 and 31, respectively.

Market share of these five companies grew to 3.5 per cent in the worldwide market in 2011 compared with 3.1 per cent in 2010.

Overall, these companies grew at 23.8 per cent in 2011 as compared to 7.7 percent growth of the global IT services market as a whole. However, Gartner did not have any figures of previous year to compare with.

During the year, Cognizant displaced Wipro to become the third-largest Indian IT services provider that experienced the highest growth rate of 33.3 per cent amongst the top five providers in 2011.

TCS grew by 29.4 per cent, while second ranked Infosys grew by 17.8 per cent. Wipro had grown with least percentage at 12.3 per cent during 2011.

HCL Technologies also had a healthy growth with 26.2 percent, Gartner said in its report.

“Indian providers have historically found it more difficult to gain market share in the Western Europe IT services market than in the US market. But, as a group, the top five increased market share in the region from 2.3 per cent in 2010 to 2.8 per cent in 2011,” Principal Research analyst at Gartner, Mr Arup Roy, said.

He said 2011 signalled a change in mind-set of European buyers, particularly Continental Europe for offshore services.

The report said that on average, the tier 1 companies outperformed growth rates of tier-2 and tier-3 providers, despite consolidation and acquisitions among some of the smaller firms.

There were some standouts, however, with Genpact rose 27 per cent and Syntel up 21 per cent. Smaller providers were charged with creating a more compelling marketing message that went beyond labour arbitrage, it said. “In the past five years, they have been increasingly winning large outsourcing deals with a total contract value of more than $ 100 million. Their target customer segment still remains the Fortune 1000 companies, which is their ‘sweet spot',” Mr Roy said.

However, in recent years, these top five providers have greatly expanded their service portfolios and have been cross selling and up selling their application services client base with offerings such as infrastructure services, business process outsourcing (BPO) services, cloud and analytics services, he added.

ILP @ Bhuvaneshwar

This Post is for the  TCS fresher who are going to do their  ILP Phase in Bhubneshwar
ILP Training in TCS is just like a paid training.
we stayed at STAR CITY , a underconstruction flat. The beds stank like hell and the pillows smelled of moisture. No surprise, it was so hot and humid. Little did I know that soon it would be rainy season in Bhubaneswar and I would be having the time of my life.

-Bathroom had a broken commode seat (in two halves), the pipes leaked so that when you flushed the water would squirt straight at your face, the basin tap was weird. If you opened it the water would squirt out sideways at almost 90deg. I had never seen anything like that. After being drenched and using the commode I relaxed on the bed. I was afraid of what would happen since I didnt know how strict it would be in TCS and whether it would be ok ..

Food was not bad, (later on, after a few days, we heard the news that someone had spotted a cockroach in the food,  haha but it was ok. After all this was the first job of my life!)

On the next day, we attended at KIIT auditorium for documents verfication(PAN Card, Degree,Affidavit etc) for next 2 days. After that our classes start at Koel Campus , KIIT.
Everyday thousands of PPTs are created and half of them was screwing the trainees.. We were given a desktop of PPT's to study all through the day..

Classes consists of 45 days includes 2 compulsory test (EC1 & EC2) and Brain Bench etc.
Both the test EC1 & EC2 are utmost important to get arrgegate 50% marks out of 200.
EC1 consists of programmimg language where only error finding , output of prg are to be asked in test.Dont go for programmimg ....do smart Study only and go for the only ppt which were given by TCS , it is more than enough.
EC2 consists of Java .Get ur concepts more clear on Encapculation, Aggregation, Association ,Normalization and little bit concept of programming on Java. Question will related to theory not like EC1.
In both Test u have to score above 50% aggregate.I got 97% and finally qualify for the phase 2 training at base center .

Had different experience during ILP with people from different states.Had lot of fun too both at villa and in office. All of us had a trip to NandanKanan Zoo.Then we visited few places like Konark,Puri temple and Piply where we bought some handicraft items.Missed few places like Chilka lake due to shortage of time. The places were greenish in and around Bhubaneswar,Ever raining,Early bird and Early Owl.Any way life was good

Overall TCS ILP training is something like smart training and tough for those who dreams that now TCS will not kick them out... All the best :-)

TCS to hire 15,000 this year

An article from BUSINESS TODAY

TCS (Tata Consultancy Services), India's largest software services provider, on Tuesday said it will hire close to 15,000 people in the January-March quarter and with addition the company will exceed its target of hiring 60,000 people for the 2011-12.

"If you look at the gross, we have already done 51,000 and as far as this quarter is concerned, we will do close to 15,000 more. So the 60,000 number will go up," TCS Vice-President and Head (Global HR) Ajoy Mukherjee told reporters.

At the beginning of the year, TCS had said it expected to hire about 60,000 people during FY12.

The company has added 18,907 (gross) and 11,981 (net) employees during the October-December quarter, taking its total headcount to 2,26,751 employees.

In the previous quarter, TCS added 20,349 people, which was the highest addition by the company in any three-month period.

The attrition rate during the third quarter fell to 12.8 per cent, Mukherjee added.

TCS on Tuesday reported an 18.26 per cent jump in consolidated net profit to Rs 2,802.77 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2011, compared to a net profit of Rs 2,301 crore in the year-ago period.

LIFE HISTORY OF TCS

TCS began as the "Tata Computer Centre" for the company Tata Group whose main business was to provide computer services to other group companies. F C Kohli was the first general manager. J. R. D. Tata was the first chairman, followed by Pankaj Roy.
One of TCS' first assignments was to provide punched card services to a sister concern, Tata Steel (then TISCO). It later bagged the country's first software project, the Inter-Branch Reconciliation System (IBRS) for the Central Bank of India.[5] It also provided bureau services to Unit Trust of India, thus becoming one of the first companies to offer BPO services.

Early 1970s—Tata Consultancy Services started exporting its services.
1974—The company pioneered the global delivery model for IT services with its first offshore client . TCS's first international order came from Burroughs Corporation, one of the first business computer manufacturers.
1975—TCS counducted its first-ever campus interview which was at IISc,Bangalore. The recruits comprising 12 IITians and 3 IISc graduates were the first to get formal training at the company.
1979—TCS delivered an electronic depository and trading system called SECOM for SIS SegaInterSettle, Switzerland. It was by far the most complex project undertaken by an Indian IT company.
1981—TCS set up India's first software research and development center, the Tata Research Development and Design Center (TRDDC) in Pune
1985—The first client-dedicated offshore development center was set up for Compaq (then Tandem).
1999—TCS saw outsourcing opportunity in E-Commerce and related solutions and set up its E-Business division with ten people. By 2004, E-Business was contributing half a billion dollars (US) to TCS.
August 9, 2004—TCS became a publicly listed company, much later than its rivals, Infosys, Wipro and Mahindra Satyam.
2005—TCS ventured into a new area for an Indian IT services company—Bioinformatics.
2006—TCS designed the ERP for IRCTC.
2011—TCS entered the Small and medium enterprises (SME) market with cloud-based offerings.
2012-TCS became the first Indian IT company to cross the 10 billion dollar revenue milestone.

ILP @ Coimbatore

ILP experience by a trainee

First few days in TCS was really hectic. In a day we will be having technical and BIZSKILLS (business skills). As if now its going on smoothly.  First 2 days  they taught us basics of User Interface(UI) and the various other topics are covered to design UI. then the HTML,we explored more in it. I should tell you guys, mentors here are very professional and experts. After we learnt HTML and few of its attributes we were given a small assignments. A team of 2 will have to give a presentation.

In the bizskills they are teaching us all the business skills, way of dressing(grooming ),gesture, posture, how to carry ourselves. it will be very much fun. everyday a new activity . ya the mentor is so energetic and a key observer. and advising, suggestions given to each individual when needed.
ILP experience by a TCSer in Coimbatore

ILP structure has changed from our batch. i dont know about other centers. but in Coimbatore ILP,it is a continuous evaluation process were ,you will be evaluated on a daily basis. you need to perform daily ,and the mentors will be observing you all the time. you cannot fool around them. and the good part is,by this you will have  a good chance to perform and work hard. solve the problem and you be will be confident enough to finish off the work which is given to you. because you dont have other choice. if u  want good rating you have to perform. I have learnt a lot in 1st week.

and its strict in terms of dress code and the other details which they have mentioned . and you need to follow. if you get caught you have to pay the price!

to brief a little from the first day:

you will be having 2 days of induction,
1.document verification
2.opening account in bank
3.they show some videos about tcs.
4.temp id will be given.

3rd day ,your actual ILP would start.
you will be given aspire test which is just formality no need to worry. its basically easy test for IT, we had the quest from database,s/w testing, java,c++.
after that you will get to know about the stream /domain.
I got JAVA/J2EE.

ILP @ kolkatta

ILP Experience by a trainee @ kolkatta.

At first day , we were asked to report at the TCS main campus in Kolkata at around 8 am. The campus was quite big and there were three buildings, Lords, Wanderers and Eden (yes, they named the buildings after the famous cricket grounds!) and we were seated at Wanderers at the conference hall. The proceedings started at around 8:30 am.

At first each of us were given the TCS visitor’s card for the day but in a short while, Smart cards were handed out to most of us and the rest were given a temporary card and were told to receive the Smart card in a few days. Next was the document verification process, we were asked to make two sets of documents, set-1 would consist the service agreement, surety verification form/surety’s passport photocopy, surety’s IT return, PAN card photocopy of surety, Medical certificate and the non-criminal affidavit, all in the said order.

Now, one thing is very important. Your surety’s signature on the documents and the signature on surety’s PAN card should match otherwise you may face problems during the document check as they would carefully match the signatures. Other than that, there were no issues mostly.

The second set of documents would consist the original copies of your 10th, 12th and all your degree mark sheets and course completion certificate along with PAN card, passports and NSR e card print outs. If you haven’t completed the NSR process by the time of your joining, you would be asked to complete at least the first phase in three or four days. They would just check the originals and update in their database after which your original documents will be returned to you.

We were also asked to open a salary bank accounts in one of the three banks SBI, Axis bank and Kotak Mahindra. The representatives from the respective banks were there, they introduced us first to what they are willing to offer and later on, they provided forms and we had to fill it up there and submit it with the required documents.

The first two days that is today and tomorrow we will be required to report at the Wanderers building and after that our training would be shifted to the Vishnu towers which is within one kilometer from the campus. We had two tea breaks each of 10 minutes and one lunch break of 45 minutes. The canteen was just below our floor and both the quality and the price of the food was reasonable. Once the smart cards or temporary cards were provided, we were allowed to visit the outside of the premises. The day ended at 7:05 pm after Ramanjit asked us to be present at the same place by 8:50 sharp tomorrow and that we would have plenty of sessions on different subjects tomorrow.

So that was my first 11 hours and 5 minutes spent at TCS. It was a little boring at some point of time as we had to sit idle at most of the times but we met plenty of new people and also friends from our respective colleges, so it was a good first day.

ILP @ Chennai

ILP experience by a trainee @ chennai

1ST DAY OF TRAINING:The day started at 7.45 am, where we were seated in a lecture hall allocated to our batch... The first good news i heard from them in the early morning was that ‘dotnet’ stream was allocated to our batch. With that, we had an intro among ourselves infront of others. We were also asked to tell the unique character of us(The response from many guys were interesting). The session went on and they gave few instructions reg. the rules and regulations to be followed in TCS, Ambattur, and also the instructions about the PAT test.Break time at 10 am. Cafeteria is quite like a canteen with a token system (not a food court type but there are small shops too where u can pay directly as well). Again, don’t worry about the rates, where it merely takes around 60-70 Rs for finishing Breakfast, Lunch and eve tea together..Next session started at 10.30am, “THE PAT TEST”.... We were allotted each cabins for the doing the test...It is a 45 mins, 36 questions objective type(4 or 5 options) of exam...

I must be the first person to finish the exam, coz i dint know anything in that (though it was about the programming basics (told by CS-IT students))... It dint take too much time for me to complete it as i did it in an ‘inky pinky ponky’ manner.. But i later realized that most of my friends and batchmates also were blank about the test ... The test coverd the basics in Unix, java, c++, webtech, DBMS, and all other topics mentioned in aspire(cant remember the exact questions)Next session at 12.00pm, ‘Business skills’... You will enjoy a lot in this session, where they make us to practice to become a perfect communicator.. First activity, the mentor gave a card for each of us, with a topic written on it, and we had to speak about it for a minute.. There was also a ppt regarding an intro about Biz skills. Session was over by 1.45.Lunch time is 1.45 -2.30... Meals Rs 33/-, veg rice Rs 25/- , veg burger Rs 20/- and Chick burger Rs 25/-, which are the major items.Nxt session at 2.30.. I felt, this session should have been kept for the whole day... It was again the business skills session, where 2 activities were given for us as a team... First one was to perform a skit with a topic given , and the next one was also a fun activity... The session was full of fun...Break time at 4 -4.30.. Had tea, came back and the final session was from 4.30 to 5.45pm.. We did nothing in this session other than sitting in the hall. Few guys performed their talents infront of others(danced, sung, and had few fun games too but wasn’t that much of fun :P)..Finally, at 5.45, all of rushed out as like how the children rushes when the school bell rings... As i said earlier, we were told that this would be the last day to enjoy!!! :(..Note: All the faculties so far i met in Ambattur office are very friendly, interactive and are jus 3-5 years old in their software career...That was the whole day about. First Week @ TCS, Ambattur, Chennai.

My views about ILP:All I can say is I am enjoying ILP and everyone will enjoy ILP. It depends on how we take the given tasks. We are given with a descent level of freedom to make our views in a laughable way. I will stress the fact that the entire faculty I met so far in ILP centre are v.friendly, caring, skilled and most importantly, they all treat us with a smile. Since, they are jus 3-7 years older than me, i feel less hesitation to call them by their name (though I am not fully used to it. Still the mam mam, sir sir words come often). Each and every task done by a trainee will be assessed and instant feedback is given. Feedback in the sense, a friendly advice... Even though, we are not learning about the core programming concepts from the first day, we are slowly approaching to it. I like this gradual approach because the Non CS-IT students won’t feel a depression from the initial day. It jus makes them feel that they are one among and all they have to do is to put a bit more effort than others. As told by a HR in the induction program," a training may not make a trainee, a perfectly skilled one in the core skills (programming). But it is also to make the trainee to learn the behaviour, mannerisms, corporate culture and work ethics along with the core skills (programming)". TCS ILP-Centre is providing all these in exact proportions to make a trainee to adopt himself to the corporate culture.Since we are put into groups, we don’t feel that we are loaded with works personally, but at the same time it gives the individual responsibility to execute the split up tasks within the group. The smile and respect given by the securities and canteen suppliers makes ourselves feel that we are employees and not studentsAll the views I stated above may vary from person to person. But I mentioned already that, its all how we take that. Even I have felt like “oh god, plz finish the weekdays soon”. But those were timely feelings, and when I look it back at the end of the day, it will be just a kind of learning what we need acquire as a software engineer.UPTO NOW 3 WEEKS ARE PASSED .........................From these 3 weeks, I can say that the ILP is a 3 months extension of a college life, just like another semester (Though the aim of the ILP is to transform to corporate life, we can feel a mixed environment, i.e. college fun with frnz, corporate in infrastructures)...Here also we have classes, presentations, tests, assignments, and most importantly fun factors in all of them... But I have also heard that the seriousness of ILP will only be known at the end of the ILP, which means we and our activities will be watched each and every second throughout the ILP and based on our way of behaviour, they will asses us....Technical presentations, Biz skills and Zone (lab)... These are major 3 sessions we have throughout the ILP and thats all what we had in the last week too... Each day, we will be having a combination of these 3 sessions....As an advice from our senior faculty, she told us not to neglect any project offerings after the ILP...Even though, the project is not from our domain, we should accept the offering and get into it... Then only, we will get the further projects easily...

ILP @ Hyderabad

ILP Experience by a trainee @ hyderabad

The Initial Learning Program[ILP], is a 90 day training program designed and evolved by Tata Consultancy Services[TCS]. Our batch was the first to have the new curriculum, and its working really good so far. So let me sum up the how things are going.

The first two days, was kind of hectic and tensed. The reason is the Documentation. TCS had quite an amount of Joining formalities, with Documentation being the most difficult one. Many would not have taken seriously when they get the annexure and you are asked to do stuff. But TCS takes this seriously, they will scrutiny your every document, and fault in producing any would result in lots of confusion and running around. You have to reproduce the faulted documents in 5 working days. Again, these formalities differ according to the ILP locations. The process was way more relaxing at ILP Hyderabad. Go through this Document - TCS Recruitment, Procedure, Surety Verification and Service Agreement and join this community to find answers to your queries, TCS ILP 2011.

End of the second day, you will get to know your Stream(In my case we have 4 streams - Java/.Net/Unix/Mainframe), Base Branch Location(i.e., where you will be joining after ILP) and your Batch. We don't have a choice to chose our Stream or Batch, and the Base Branch location was 90% based on the preferences you gave earlier at Nextstep portal. At the end of day, I got into Java stream with Base Branch as Bangalore, but most of my friends landed in Mainframe(which turned out to be hectic later on)

From the next day on, we attended session according to our respective batches. We basically had four sessions every day comprising of three technical sessions and one Business Skills session. The third day would be pretty much an intro to the whole procedure, which in our case was an intro to the new curriculum. The curriculum changed, now we had no more weekly exams and hardcore theory sessions. Instead we have continuous evaluation with a Project Based training, which I should say has come out very well. We were put into one of the two shifts, Morning shift - 7am - 1.45pm and Night shift - 2.15pm to 9pm. You can have extra sessions, you can come Saturdays and Sundays, and workout whenever you wish to(i.e., apart from these sessions).
The faculties are really good, we can talk, ask, request anything to everything! They will really help us to solve the issues we face. This has been particularly helpful to the students without a Computer background. And I have a note to those students, never feel like you will suffer in here. If you have the basics, you will conquer this world. Or else, you still have the time to frame the basics! Your friends from Computer background and the faculties will help you in every way possible.
   .

Here, in hyderabad, TCS has availed us the accommodation and all that stuff .TCS has hired an apartment consisting of almost 600 flats with different blocks. All of the flats are 3BHK and are newly constructed.   Our accommodation was in Kondapur, Hitech City. Our stay was in Hotel Supreme Landmark, just opposite Satyam office. Training centre was at 20 mins distance by bus. Rooms were very nice. There were 2 buildings. All the girls were in the main building, except on the ground floor. We were in the other building just opposite to the main building. On each floor there were 3 rooms and a common hall. In the hall, there was a TV, a sofa set and a water cooler, also a common bathroom. There was a cafeteria in the main building.   Here, we are supposed to stay with 5 TCSers of our own choice . As far as the other utilities are concerned, when have been provided with bedding, almirahs and all other facilities such as dusting.
Coming to the food, hyderabad is famous for spicy food, yes it is being influenced by me as well. Here, good quality of food is not accessible in the 6-7 kms range of my apartment. That's why, we need to travel to have access to good quality of food. Any way, thatt's negotiable if you have some good people staying with you or have good company to walk with..

TCS Peepul park, TVM photos

ILP @ ahmedabad

This post will give u a breif idea about the ILP @ ahmedabad.

You will have ur ILP in infocity is located in gandhinagar, and is about a 45 minute drive from ahemdabad railway station.
Infocity:
There are various kinds of buildings here, including residential, commercial offices and shops. residential buildings are of studio apartments, flats and bungalows. commercial offices are located in various towers. some of the towers are still under construction. TCS has its office in IT tower 1 and IT tower 3. IT tower 3 is also called as “Nal Sarovar” which is the name of the building. The park is quite big, and its maintained in a very nice way. more information on the infocity can be found at its own website:www.infocity.com.

Accommodation is provided in studio apartments. normally, one apartment is occupied by 4 people. now, there four people are never from the same college. TCS allots random rooms to the people in order to make them communicate with new people and co-ordinate with them. rooms are nicely maintained and are cleaned everyday.
There is one canteen contractor who provides food both at IT tower canteen and at studio apartments. quality of food is nice, laundry facility is available with manageable rates. hra will be deducted from u after u leave the flat..

ILP Experience by a trainee:
first thing: tie is compulsory. they said previously that tie is optional, but its not. there are strict security policies here. we are not allowed to carry any media inside ILP centre which includes mobile phones, pen drives, CDs and other electronic media. they have five levels of confidentiality, out of which only first level can be made public (which is there on tcs.com). all the ILP related presentations had confidentiality level 2 which is tcs-internal. this information can only be shared with people inside TCS.

There are many presentations explaining various processes inside TCS. it also explained various portals that we would be using as employee of TCS. then there was information about importance of security rules, copyright rules and punctuality etc. all the sessions were very informative, but sadly only few of them were interesting. rest all were either not very exciting or had obvious information conveyed.
All the batches had size of around 250. hence they were divided in groups

TCS has affiliation with HDFC bank, so we are offered customized accounts for our salary and reimbursement accounts. they also offer nice gold debit card and demat card options. almost everything is free of cost, with accounts being zero balance accounts. but the activation takes 7 days. If u filled out forms today, so by next Tuesday,  u ll get your accounts activated and ready to use.

Coming to weather, its  bit colder here,  but bearable. the temperature will go down in coming weeks, so then it would be slightly tougher to manage. most people didn't anticipate this and have no warm clothes with them.

ILP is far from Ahmedabad railway station....around 50min journey...U'll  have to catch a bus from Kalupur(Ahm railway station) to GH-0(nearer to TCS hostel)..buses are available opposite side of the Ahm railway station.. and if u can't find the bus of G'nagar from Railway station then go to the Bus Station (Gita Mandir). It's just 3 KM away from Railway Station and catch the bus of G'nagar.

FAQ's on service agreement

FAQ's on service agreement

1.Should I notarized service agreement ?
Ans: Should not be notraized. Because you will be giving the service agreement on the date which is your date of joining.. it means you have made the agreement on that date.. and if u get it notarised even a day earlier.. the notary’s sign with date causes discrepency.

2.Is it a problem if i already notarised service agreement?
Ans: a notary is a means of authenticating your signature. It is a way of telling that this signature is correct and is signed before me. ILP@ TRIVANDRUM

Thiruvananthapuram or Trivandrum was quite unlike many cities that I have been to. People in this place don't mind rains - even if it rains throughout the year. 100% literacy rate in Kerala means that everyone knows how to read and write Malayalam - and all of them can put in their signature. The autorickshaws charge for both to and fro - if you travel from A to B, then you need to pay double the amount given on the meter, so if you want to come back from B to A - you need not pay anything more. The buses have no numbers and everything everywhere is written only in Malayalam. Everyone in Trivadrum knew about Technopark - that's where TCS is situated, and I later realized that Technopark is the only place famous in Trivandrum apart from the beaches.

TCS Executive Hostel has around 150 rooms - each room is furnished with 2 beds, 2 study tables, a cupboard for 2 people, a dressing table, 1 plug point for mobile phone charging and an attached bathroom - believe me, the accomodation can't get better than this. The hostel has two outdoor shuttle courts, a gym (not many facilities in the gym though), a recreation room with a TV, carrom board and Table Tennis table, a common TV for each floor and a restaurant that can seat around 200 people at a time. Each floor gets three newspapers - The Hindu, The Indian Express and ET. There is also a browsing center which charges Rs. 25 for an hour of browsing (half the computers don't work most of the time though), a small utility shop for buying things like from pencils to badminton racquets, two STD booths and a laundry service (called Al-Khobar Laundry service; charges are exorbitant - Rs. 13/- for a pair of shirt and trousers - washing and pressing). The only bad thing about the hostel is the restaurant - the food served is not great - and the fact that the hostel is located in a village and there are few places to go to around the hostel - you do have a number of small restaurants outside the hostel at walkable distance - recommended ones are Hotel Chennai and Veg World.

The daily schedule will have 4 slots with 2 tea/coffee breaks and 1 lunch break and it may typically be like this

9 to 11 - A Slot
11 to 11.30 - Break
11.30 to 1.15 - B Slot
1.15 to 2.00 - Lunch
2.00 to 3.30 - C Slot
3.30 to 4.00 - Break
4.00 to 5.30 - D Slot
5.30 to 5.45 - Submission of feedback forms/meetings.

From 2006, the ILP pattern has been changed - it is for 50 days for all branches (earlier CS ppl had ILP for 33 days and non CS for 44 days) - now mind you - 50 days means 50 working days - which would mean that the ILP is for 63 days (9 weeks), coz we would get around 12 or 13 holidays (Sundays and alternate Saturdays - TCS works on alternate Saturdays). So, this 50 day ILP schedule is broken up into two phases -
1. Induction
2. Integration

TCS ILP Center at Trivandrum has around 4 labs - which are in the top floor each having around 90 computers. There are around 12 classrooms - including 2 classroom having 35 computers each. All classrooms are fully air conditioned (this is for those who demand specifics). And there is an auditorium which could seat around 150 students.

In a day, you may have 2 technical sessions and 2 life skill sessions, or in worst cases - you may have all 4 technical sessions - which can be very taxing coz you tend to fall asleep what with the AC also on ;). Technical sessions can get really boring. We had most of the fun during the life skills sessions. Life skills mainly includes the written and oral communication and the professional grooming.

Please switch off your cell phones when you attend the sessions in the ILP center, or atleast keep them in silent mode. Some of the faculty members take this seriously and if your cellphone rings in the classroom - then you will have to generously contribute to the MOBILE FUND (TCS named it like that) - you have to shell out around 100 bucks for the first time and if you are caught again, then 300 and if for a third time you are found with a ringing cellphone in the classroom - you need to contribute Rs.500/- only. This affects the PVA of your batch.
PVA - Professional Value Add

The integration phase is where you will have project specific training - it could be J2EE, mainframes, .NET and some others which I am not aware of. Along with the project specific training you will also be taught a foreign language which could be German, French or Japanese.
